Evye Szanto
Co-Director
Evye Szanto M.D. is a retired neurologist who practiced for more than 20 years in Northern California. Evye was a nationally renowned expert on various neurological topics and frequently gave lectures to physicians, nurses, and the general population. She was frequently called upon to speak for technological and pharmaceutical innovators such as Medtronics, Glaxo and Biogen, among others.

Carol fell in love with the Lake Tahoe area during a family vacation several years before being fortunate enough to retire here. Born and raised in the mid-west, Carol always loved the outdoors and is now thrilled that every day, it is only a few steps to being in the peace of our lovely forest surroundings.

B&B 4 Kids Co-Chairperson
Paula joined the Advisory Board of Bread & Broth in 2015. A very involved South Tahoe resident, she started what is now called B&B 4 Kids in 2011 by serving five students at the local middle school, and is excited to have seen the program grow under Bread & Broth beginning in 2015. “The volunteers with Bread & Broth are amazing,” said Paula. “Their dedication and determination to bring the program to more children and families is inspiring.”

Christy was born and raised in Pacific Palisades in Southern California. She attended California Western University, San Diego for four years. She raised her two daughters in Torrance, California. Being fortunate to not have to work while her children were young, she was able to be her daughter’s Girl Scout leader for 11 years and spent a lot of time playing and enjoying tennis in sunny SoCal. As her daughters grew older, Christy worked part-time in an orthopedic doctor’s office and for her family until her husband retired in 2003.

Communications Chairperson
Emily came to South Lake Tahoe in 2014. After just one trip, she fell in love with Tahoe and decided to pick up and move all the way across the country from coastal North Carolina. She was born and raised in Northeast Ohio and is a graduate of The Ohio State University with a Bachelor’s in Business. Currently, she is a Human Resource Manager at a resort in South Lake.

Kathi Olsen
Cooks & Coordinator Co-Chairperson
Kathi was born in the Bay area and spent her early years in San Jose. She and her husband, a US Marine, were married in 1981 and relocated to Costa Mesa. She began her career in exhibit fabrication, tradeshows, special events, and catering in southern California until their transfer to Hawaii in 1990. In Hawaii, Kathi joined Century 21 as a realtor and based upon her vast marketing experience, began selling promotional products as well.

Sandy and her husband arrived in South Lake Tahoe in 1976 because they loved the outdoors and as young newlyweds were open to adventure. After moving from her home town of Haywood, California, Sandy began her family and became committed to the South Lake Tahoe community. She began working for the Lake Tahoe Unified School District, first as an Instructional Aide and transitioned to become the Librarian for the Tahoe Valley Elementary school. After 35 years of dedicating herself to the education of children, Sandy retired from the LTUSD in 2012.

Deep Cleaning Co-Chairperson
Dana was raised in Northern California in the rural town of Gridley. After attending college at Chico State and Cal Poly, she moved to Honduras to teach at an international school. This is where her love of travel began. While living in Central America, she realized how fortunate we were in the United States to have fresh drinking water, phones and electricity that worked. Helping other people both from the US and other countries became a passion.

Food Coordination Chairperson
Roberta was born and raised in New York and attended Mercy College in Dobbs Ferry, NY, earning her degree in Education. Upon completion of her undergraduate degree, she relocated to San Francisco and continued her education earning her Masters degree in School Administration from the University of San Francisco. Her first and only position for the next 36 years was as school principal at Simitatico Junior and Senior High School. Roberta was instrumental in founding the school which served young girls with mental health issues and pregnant teens, all referred by the Department of Social Services and Probation Department.

Athlete, scientist, birder, world traveler, grandpa, volunteer are some of the hats Dave Carneggie has worn. He is currently serving as Coordinator of Bread and Broth’s Second Serving at Lake Tahoe Community Presbyterian Church (LTCPC)

Father Mauricio Hurtado
St. Theresa Church Representative
The eldest of five children, Father Mauricio Hurtado was born into a farming family in El Calvario, Michoacán, Mexico. His interest in the Catholic church was renewed when he was 19 years old when he found God’s love and mercy in the sacrament of Confession. As his knowledge of his vocation in the priesthood became apparent, he traveled with his parents to Seminario de Santa Maraia de Guadalupe and enrolled in the seminary that very day.

Raised in South Lake Tahoe, Meghan traveled the world after graduating South Tahoe High School, visiting Japan, Egypt, Costa Rica and many other wonders. She was finally drawn back to the area where she graduated from UNR with a Bachelor’s degree in Business and now works as an accounting manager. She felt compelled to find a way to give back to the community that supported her for so long as the opportunity to serve on the Bread & Broth Advisory board came her way.

Myrabelle (Myee) Avecilla
Volunteer Coordinator Chairperson
Born and raised in Los Angeles, California, Myee moved to South Lake Tahoe in June 2015. She came not knowing what she was going to do here but soon began working from home as an administrative specialist with UCLA’s Department of Medicine. In addition, as a licensed instructor, Myee teaches Zumba classes at the SLT Recreation and Swim Complex.
