Over eighteen months into the COVID-19 pandemic, those struggling financially from its impact
are now facing the added burden of lost wages and evacuation costs due to the Caldor Fire.
Bread & Broth is once again requesting your financial support to enable us to continue our
mission to ease hunger for our neighbors in need.
Since March of 2020 and prior to the Caldor Fire evacuation, Bread & Broth has been providing
bags of food (in lieu of our twice weekly hot meals) every Monday and Friday at St. Theresa
Grace Hall to anyone who is in need. Individuals and families have been given 4 to 10 bags of
food, depending on the family’s size, which have included meats, milk, eggs, butter, fresh fruit
and vegetables, breads and pastries, and various basic staples such as rice, spaghetti, canned
goods and nutrition bars.
In addition, Bread & Broth has continued its B&B 4 Kids program by providing bags of weekend
kid-friendly nutritious food to LTUSD students throughout the school year since the beginning of
the pandemic and giving out bags of food to children once a week during the summer school
break.
With our twice weekly food bag giveaways and the modified B&B 4 Kids Program implemented
since March of 2020, Bread & Broth has been touching the lives of an average of 1,012 men,
women and children on a weekly basis. We have distributed 75,060 bags of food at our
Monday/Friday giveaways and 21,054 bags of food through our Kids program. With the added
financial burden of the Caldor Fire, we are anticipating a continued need for our support during
the coming months.
Bread & Broth is extremely grateful for the donations of time, funding, and food donations
which have enabled us to provide free food to food insecure neighbors over the past eighteen
months. We would like to acknowledge the El Dorado Food Bank, McDonald’s, Pizza Hut,
Raley’s at the “Y”, Safeway, Smart & Final, and Whole Foods Grocery for their weekly donations
of food to Bread & Broth. In addition to the donation of food from these local businesses, the
outpouring of financial donations from individuals, organizations, and foundations has enabled
Bread & Broth to purchase an average of over $5,700 of food products weekly.
Bread & Broth and its dedicated volunteers are once again seeking your support to help our
community members put healthy, nutritious food on their tables. Donations can be made via
Paypal on our website, www.hatchbackc6.sg-host.com
or, by sending a check, made payable to “St.Theresa Bread & Broth”
mail to Bread & Broth, St. Theresa Church, 1041 Lyons Ave., South Lake Tahoe, CA, 96150.
