BREAD & BROTH THANKS COMMUNITY AS NEED AND PROGRAM EXPANDS

707100-bb2.jpgSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – The commitment of Bread & Broth over the last thirty years has solely focused on the mission to ease hunger in the South Lake Tahoe community. That mission took on new meaning beginning in mid-March with the onset of the COVID-19 outbreak when record numbers of individuals seeking food assistance from the various programs and services provided by B & B.

Services previously provided by Bread & Broth have been modified. Instead of hot, nutritious meals served on Mondays and Fridays, individuals and families receive bags of non-perishable staples (canned goods, rice, soups, meats, etc), fruits and vegetables, bread and pastries, and dairy products (milk, eggs, and butter). These foods are distributed twice weekly at St. Theresa Church-Grace Hall: Mondays from 4:00 p.m. – 5:30 p.m. and Fridays from 3:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. Food bags are also provided to local homeless families and Warm Room elders being housed at local motels. Any leftover food is taken to the Warm Room currently housed at the South Lake Tahoe Recreation Center.

The Bread & Broth kids program, B&B 4 Kids, has provided weekend food bags for children at their school sites for several years and now consists of volunteers following LTUSD school busses to the various bus stops and the four distribution locations at school campuses each Friday….READ MORE

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – As one would expect in South Lake Tahoe, the community has been coming together to help others during these trying times and uncertainty.

Base Camp Pizza has been one of those businesses that have helped out the community. On Friday they dropped off 120 pizzas, 75 salads and 100 pasta dishes to Bijou Community School for families there who were picking up kids’ homework and other supplies to use for at-home study. Local girl scouts donated boxes of cookies to hand out.

This week Base Camp Pizza has also dropped off about 70 pizzas for staff at Barton Hospital, 15 to the South Lake Tahoe Police Department and 60 to the Warming Room. The popular Heavenly Village business did make the decision to close due to coronavirus concerns so their employees could stay safe.

The closure of Harrah’s, Harveys, Heavenly and Edgewood left them with trucks full of extra food so they dropped off them at Bread & Broth for their Friday and Monday food bag giveaways. Volunteers worked hard to get the food ready which included donations from …READ MORE
