Heavenly hosts Bread & Broth Adopt A Day meal

Published: January 3, 2023 –  SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. — On Monday, Dec. 12, Bread & Broth’s volunteer cooks used their very creative and talented culinary skills to prepare a tasty roast lamb dinner to serve to the guests who braved the snowy elements to attend the meal served at St. Theresa’s Grace Hall.

In addition to acknowledging the Chart House for donating the lamb, the meal was made possible by the $300 funding provided by Vail’s EpicPromise Grant program for Heavenly Mountain Resort’s Adopt A Day of Nourishment sponsorship.

The grant funds enable the local Vail Resorts (Heavenly and Kirkwood) to sponsor an Adopt A Day once a month and send a crew of up to five of their team members to participate in the setup, serving, and cleanup of their sponsorship meal. Read more….

Feeding the hungry: Organizations seek help on holidays

Published: November 12, 2022 –  SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. — It’s the time of year to bundle up, sit in front of the fire with family and friends and enjoy the holidays.

But there are many in the community who struggle during Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Each year, the offerings of food banks provide warm meals and a chance to sit with community members on what could otherwise be lonely holidays.

Organizations like the El Dorado Food Coalition, established in 1999, involving a handful of faith-based organizations, working to provide assistance in El Dorado County, grew to establish a full-service food bank in August of 2000.

“In 1999, my dad was passing away, and he asked me to build him a charity,” said Mike Sproull, director of the Food Bank of El Dorado County. “And I thought to myself, ‘I’m not doing that,’ but he made me give him my word. And I kept my word. And I think what I got out of it, or what he was leading to, he wanted his wayward son to be doing something that was good for the community and got him around good people, instead of bad people. And it’s changed my life.”…Read more…

Kudos: Liberty Utilities hosts Bread & Broth dinner

Published – October 10,2022 – From an informal survey of Bread & Broth’s (B&B) dinner guests attending the Monday Meal on October 3, the B&B cooks were to be congratulated for the tender, moist, and tasty Chicken Parmesan that was the main entrée for the evening’s meal. Cooking for a large group of people is not always an easy task but the talented and creative B&B cooks always strive to make a delicious and nutritious meal for B&B’s dinner guests.

The meal’s Adopt A Day of Nourishment (AAD) host for the evening was Liberty Utilities and once again their $300 donation was the funding that provided the food and supplies needed to serve the evening’s meal. In addition to the donation, another great crew from Liberty joined the B&B volunteers in putting together the food ‘giveaway’ bags, preparing the dessert/drink table, manning the serving line, and breaking down and cleaning up after the meal.

Thanks to Liberty Utilities’ generous community volunteer policy, Liberty team members Blaine Ladd, James Martin, Frank Papandrea, and Emily Sellier-Flynn were able to devote three hours to helping their community neighbors enjoy a hot, filling meal and take-home bags of food. The AAD crew was a fun and hardworking group that delighted in the volunteer experience…Read more
